Covered Jumbo Cookers

Calphalon 13-Inch Deep Skillet

I’m looking to replace my 12-inch skillet that is beginning to show its wear and tear after five years. This pan has been a godsend in my kitchen because I use it for everything from frying bacon to cooking one-pot meals for my family. I need the size, plus a lid for simmering.

The Calphalon brand is the most exceptional in terms of quality and durability. I can use my metal spatulas and spoons without scratching the surface, which I’ve never been able to use with Farberware and like brands. Calphalon pans are compatible with a variety of stovetops and can withstand high cooking temperatures without warping.

This pan costs about $99, which seems expensive until I think about how many pans I’ve replaced over the past fifteen years. The only con I saw, after reading the product description, was cleaning process. Calphalon pots and pans are not dishwasher safe. You will have to handwash them, using a Scotch Brite pad and a Bar Keeper’s Friend cleanser. My local grocery store carries the Scotch Brite pads, but I may have to special order the cleanser.

WearEver Simplicity 12-Inch Covered Jumbo Cooker

I’ve used Farberware (and similar brands) for years with mixed results. The Wearever deep skillet has the size and lid that I need, and the $20 price tag makes it a great impulse buy. I can set it in the top rack of my dishwasher and walk away. Two months to five years later, I’ll be looking for another replacement.
